2009 eASTRO Computer Learning Lab

EduCase Basic EditionThe 2009 computer learning lab focuses on the following sites and treatment:

  • Gastrointestinal
  • Gynecology
  • Head and neck
  • Lung
  • Prostate

The objectives for the computer learning lab are to:

  • Strengthen hands-on contouring skills.
  • Practice contouring techniques with leading experts.
  • Compare contours with leading experts.

This program will be held at the ASTRO Annual Meeting in Chicago and is designed to provide crucial clinical education for professionals to provide an opportunity to discuss issues such as imaging and target delineation, quality assurance and its frequency, and achievable accuracy in each major disease site. Participants have the opportunity to practice contouring and compare their contours to those of experienced professional faculty and technical support.

Target Audience
This course is aimed at radiation oncologists, radiation physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists and radiation therapy nurses who work as part of a treatment planning and delivery team.


Continuing Medical Education

 

Physicians
The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. ASTRO designates this educational activity for a maximum of 9.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Technologists/Dosimetrists
Application has been made to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists for designated of Category A continuing education credit.

Physicists
Application has been made to the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Program for CAMPEP credit.

Laptop Users
If you are registered to contour on your personal laptop, you will need to ensure that your software specifications meet the description below:

  • Intel Pentium III 1.8 GHz Processor of greater
  • Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or MAC OS1
  • 512 MB of RAM, (1 GB recommended)
  • 360 MB of available hard disk space
  • Flash player 10 download
  • 1024 x 768 pixel screen resolution or greater
  • Java Script Enabled
  • Adobe Air Runtime

The EduCase Explorer Beta Test provides many more features that enhance the user experience in IMRT training. Features in the Beta Test desktop application include:

  • Viewing IMRT cases in Axial, Sagittal and Coronal views (Any Combination of CT, PET, and MR data sets).
  • Contouring practice tools allows users to practice their contouring techniques and compare to case author’s structures.
  • Save contours for practice and review
  • Similarity Metric that provide a practice mode to gauge contouring accuracy and a test mode that will accumulate all contouring accuracy measurements and provide an average test result that can be sent to mentors.
  • Annotations to create marker flags for each contour containing contour details, descriptions, training lesson material and supporting media assets such as images, MS Power Point files, and video
